RE: Legal question: Is a search warrant required for RV entry?

$1,000 is pocket money. I would not worry unless you have over $10,000 cash.
The only time we worry about $1000 cash is if it is accompanied by drugs and/or paraphernalia.

RE: shore cord length?

Never needed one in the seven years I owned the old RV. However, bought one this summer in Seward, AK (30 amp, 25 ft). The only way to park facing Resurection Bay and still be plugged in for the week and a half we were there. Best money ever spent, and now I have it if I should ever need it again...:)

RE: Chrome--have any of you used it?

Been using it for a couple of weeks, and just had it's first crash earlier today. I opened it right back up, was given the option of opening it back to the pages that were open. Has worked fine since that. Works fine, just a bit different than Firefox. I'm kinda using both Chrome and Firefox indiscriminately at this time...

RE: well that ain't camping

I have read through this thread and the only thing that kept coming to my mind was the enjoyment that my 80 year old mother has when she travels with me. When we went to Mt. Airy, NC for Mayberry Days, my widowed aunt went with us and she said something that really touched me. We were discussing the issue about none of my siblings will take mom anywhere and my aunt looked me straight in the eye and said "...yea but you are the one that is going to have all of the memories..." Yes it is not primitive camping by any stretch of the imagination but mom can go with me even in her advanced age and yea, I am going to have a lot of good memories.
And that is what it's all about!

RE: well that ain't camping

Thoughts to ponder...
1) While you're camping in February in your TT, you can tell the people sitting in front of their TVs watching American Idol, "that ain't camping!"
2) Went to Alaska for the first time this summer. For a good portion of the trip the campgrounds/RV parks don't allow, or at least discourage tents and soft sided RVs. They don't want to feed the bears a "sack lunch".
3) The wife and I spent several years loading four kids and all our gear into a pick-up truck to tent camp. I've earned my merit badge.
3) I've been shot at, spat upon, kicked, and punched for 16 years at work. I figure I've got nothing to prove by sleeping on the ground...

RE: Satellite TV--Dish vs. Direct

I've had Dish for 11 years and love it. There are those who have had DirecTV and love it. Pick one and go for it. Sign a two year agreement and then if you don't like it, change in two years. :D

RE: Dish Network. Any tips for new customer?

Not knocking DirecTV. I've never used em, jut happy with Dish. In the early days, I set up the system on my own with few problems. Including the "skew". Once set up an antenna in Elk camp. That took a few minutes more, due to rough terrain. The five minutes I was originally referring to was to call and get the receiver authorized and working. Friends don't let friends watch cable!

RE: Dish Network. Any tips for new customer?

My advise, is change to DirecTV. Much easier to set up.
Uh, ok... So I should switch to DirecTV after 11 years of satisfaction with Dish, due to easier setup? Easier than 5 minutes or so on the phone? :@
Just kidding... Whatever makes you happy!

RE: Dish Network. Any tips for new customer?

Weird...:h We've been a Dish customer for 11 years, and they've always been great to us. We've had problems with the subcontractors who installed systems for us as we've upgraded, but Dish always came through and got things in line. We just set up one of our old receivers (one we owned) in our new RV in June. We told them it was going in the RV, they set it up with no problems. When it died, they sent us a replacement receiver at no cost, just asked us to send the old smart card in. I set the new receiver up the other night, called Dish making it clear that the receiver was in an Rv and got it set up within a few minutes. Works great. Very happy customer for 11 years.:)

RE: Cassier Highway

We just left Stewart yesterday. Few salmon in the creek at Hyder, and only saw one bear, a young brown bear. Several eagles hanging around. The drive up to the summit viewpoint was tremendous, and actually smoother. than I thought it would be.The Saturn handled it easily. We'll have to come back another year for more bear viewing, not too far from home...:)

RE: any such thing as quiet time?

Haven't had this problem in WA State Parks, but some of the rangers are fully commissioned state LEOs. Perhaps that's why no problems?

RE: Whitehorse to Tok

I went through W/B about 5 days ago. The road is rough in places, but most are marked with flags. Just be sure to slow down to 45 to 50 for these areas. There is also a 47 mile stretch of construction with pavement breaks the whole way east of Tok. Everytime I got up to 55, I'd have to slow down for another break. I didn't think this area was too bad, but did come upon a diesel pusher going E/B that had removed the bumper from his toad :E. Was it related? Beats me...

RE: My toad dead on road after one trip!

Could be worse. This morning, heading west toward Tok, AK in a stretch of 47 miles of construction, we came upon a couple of DPs pulling toads. They were stopped in the E/B lane. We stopped to see what was going on. The first DP had the bumper come off their toad. I pulled from forward, and sure enough, the front bumper was pulled off. They were trying to remove the tow gear and then drive home to the lower 48 that way. That would not be fun...:E

RE: Is a toad a must for this trip?

My search finally paid off. This past Tuesday I bought a 2002 Saturn SL2 with a Stowmaster 5000 for about $500 under NADA and Kelley Blue Book. Seems to be in good condition and is ready to go when we leave for Alaska on Wednesday! WooHoo!
